Charlotte Nsubuga-Mukasa (MC)
Motivated to personify the #SheOwnsHerSuccess ethos, Charlotte is determined to empower all women who seek to make incredible advances where they are planted. A mother to her son of 6, she is always open to conversations that bring men and people of various orientations into this brand property with purpose and intention.
She studied at the University of Free State and graduated with a degree in Mathematical Statistics and Computer Science. She pursued her honours in Risk Analysis and broadened her horizons at the Wits Business School. But her passion for people led her to become a marketing maverick. She cut her teeth as an advertising and marketing professional working with big names like MTN Group and BMW South Africa. It’s here that her journey to success sparked the beginning of her pursuit to understand the psychology and the anatomy of marketing in its entirety.
Professionally, she recognises that money is emotional and so she is constantly evolving and creating new financial narratives that speak to the Momentum brand and how consumers can improve their money moves with the power of sound and straightforward financial advice.
Nashalin Portrag
Nashalin is passionate about finding new and innovative ways to solve clients’ financial problems through immersive research and insights.
Nashalin is a part-time honours lecturer at the University of Pretoria’s Actuarial Department and has worked on research focusing on disability benefits. He completed his Honours degree in Actuarial Science at the University of the Witwatersrand and an MDP (Cum Laude) at Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
Damian McHugh
Motivated by the desire to provide more health to more South Africans for less, Damian offers his 28 years’ worth of sales and marketing expertise to help the health marketing and communications team fulfil this objective.
Damian kicked off his working career in the early 1990s with Alexander Forbes. He assisted in building solutions for schemes and worked on teams that designed and evaluated managed care networks. He later joined Momentum Medical Scheme Administrators (MMSA), now Momentum Health Solutions. His efforts in guiding the sales and marketing teams were instrumental in turning Momentum Health, now Momentum Medical Scheme, into one of the fastest-growing open schemes in South Africa.
Damian holds a B.Com Degree in Marketing and Information Systems from the University of South Africa (Unisa) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business, obtained through the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). A stern believer in growth and the continuous improvement of oneself, Damian continues to improve his leadership skills through various programmes from top African universities, to help him motivate his teammates and future successors to make quality healthcare ‘fashionable’, but most importantly, affordable for all.
Hannes van den Berg
Hannes is the CEO of Consult, a financial planning and advisory group with an extensive national footprint of more than 300 financial advisers and assets under advice of over R30 billion.
With over two decades’ experience in the financial advisory and investment industries, his career has seen him occupy roles such as chief financial officer of Momentum Sales and chief financial officer of Momentum Wealth.
In 2014, Hannes established Consult and with him at the helm, the business has grown to include an expansive national footprint and robust portfolio.
Hannes holds a B.Compt.Hons degree and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) in 2001.
Janine Horn
Janine has over 18 years of industry experience, specialising in holistic financial wellness solutions and business insurance and group benefits. She’s a certified financial planner for Momentum, successfully growing a diverse client base across all aspects of the financial planning environment.
She advocates for financial literacy and financial planning, and her approach is to assess and understand, plot and plan, train, develop, strategise and implement. Horn partners with her clients on their journey to success, engaging with them on financial matters.
She’s a supporter of women’s economic empowerment and focuses on enhancing gender and demographic diversity in an ageing and stagnant industry. Her vision is to develop the skills of financial advisers.
Jeffrey Wiseman
After completing his articles and being admitted as an attorney and notary of the High Court of South Africa, Jeffrey remained in legal practice for a short while before entering the financial services industry in 1996.
Jeffrey joined Momentum in 1999 and has held various legal advisory, financial planning, and compliance positions in addition to his current role as CEO of Momentum Trust.
Along with various tax and financial planning qualifications, Jeffrey holds an LLB degree from the University of Cape Town and an LLM degree in Mercantile Law from the University of Pretoria. He’s a member of the Fiduciary Institute of Southern Africa and is Chairman of the FISA Disciplinary Committee. Jeffrey is a CFP professional and a full member of the UK-based Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP).
Johann van Tonder
Johann studies the impact of macro and micro economic events on consumers, specifically in the realm of their finances. A core function of his role is to analyse data to gauge how the economy affects consumer financial behaviour.
He investigates developments in the general state of households’ finances (assets and liabilities) and studies the contributing factors to overall financial wellness and success.
These results are published in various reports, including well-respected Momentum properties like the Consumer Financial Vulnerability Index (CFVI), Household Wealth Index and the Momentum Unisa Science of Success campaign that takes place each year to highlight the Household Financial Wellness Index to all South Africans.
Mike Adsetts
Mike started at Momentum Investments in May 2008. He has a broad range of experience, spanning investment consulting, investment and portfolio management, product development and client servicing at Momentum Investments, Old Mutual and Alexander Forbes.
He has been working in the investment field for 14 years.
Mike is the deputy CIO, co-responsible for ensuring the outcome-based investing philosophy is embedded and represented in decision-making processes, research initiatives, governance and, ultimately, portfolios managed by the investment team. He also acts as an ambassador and elevates the profile and understanding of the philosophy across all stakeholder groups.
Mike has a BSc Honours degree from the University of the Witwatersrand, an MBA from Wits Business School, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst designation holder.
Nkosinathi Mahlangu
Nkosinathi has walked the socio-economic development path for over 11 years. Coming from an IT background, Nkosinathi also holds a media studies and journalism qualification, a Unisa Management Development Programme Certificate in BBBEE and an MDP Certificate from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
Youth empowerment is his passion as he believes that empowering young people is aligned with securing a prosperous future for society and the country at large.
Nkosinathi believes that everyday learnings from engaging with various audiences make it essential to seek innovative solutions to daily challenges continuously.
Rowan Burger
Rowan has been in financial services for over 25 years, predominately in the employee benefits and investment space, having gained broad experience at two other large organisations before joining Momentum Metropolitan in 2013.
Rowan has recently fulfilled several strategic roles within the group and is a well-known market commentator. He has regular interactions on a broad range of topics with the legislator and represents the industry, particularly at Nedlac.
He has a passion for getting more South Africans to retire comfortably, which is why he expends much emotional energy debating this topic with the social partners in the Social Security and Retirement Reform Task Team at Nedlac.
He is a past Actuarial Society council member and sits on its stakeholder board.
Ryno de Kock
Ryno started his career as broker consultant in the Liberty Group in 1999. He soon transitioned into sales within the Standard Bank group and in 2010 was appointed as national head of sales. Ryno joined Altrisk, a strategic partner of the Hollard Group, in 2011 as head of distribution.
Ryno joined Adviceworx in 2013 as a sales executive and played an integral role in the initial build of the advisory business. In 2018 was asked to head up Adviceworx Private Clients Securities. In June 2020, Ryno decided to venture into a more entrepreneurial role. Over the years, he has expanded his already extensive knowledge and skillset across various key parts of the financial advisory sector. Ryno joined Consult in 2021 as the head of financial planning & advice.
Ryno holds a BCom Industrial Psychology degree and a Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Planning. Ryno also completed his MBA at the University of the Free State.

Sonja Saunderson
Sonja ensures that the outcome-based investment philosophy is ingrained and represented in all portfolios.
Sonja has 18 years of experience in the industry and joined a group related company in 1999 as an actuarial assistant doing asset and liability modelling for the company’s defined-benefit retirement fund clients.
Before joining the industry, Sonja lectured Actuarial Science and Statistics at the North-West University School for Business Mathematics and Informatics. She studied a BSc in Mathematics and Computer Science at North-West University, after which she completed a BCom and BCom (Hons) in Economics and Statistics. She completed a MCom in Statistics and Economics and various actuarial subjects before pursuing a career in the investment industry.
Her various roles included research analyst, head of research, head of product development and deputy chief investment officer before being promoted to chief investment officer in 2010 at Momentum outcome-based solutions.
Momentum outcome-based solutions was incorporated into Momentum Investments, where she is now the chief investment officer.
Sonja has extensive experience in constructing goals-based outcomes for clients and portfolio construction, risk management, investment manager selection and portfolio management in general.
Zisanda Gila
Zisanda is a senior money market portfolio manager at Momentum Investments. She manages over R50 billion in assets across the various money market strategies within the fixed income team.
She started her career as a fixed income trader. She has served years in the investment profession in various roles, and her portfolio of responsibilities gradually evolved during the years within the Momentum Metropolitan Holdings Group.
She and the fixed income team bagged multiple Raging Bull Awards for the Momentum Enhanced Yield Money Market fund as the “Best South African interest-bearing short-term fund on a risk-adjusted basis” over 5 years.
Her growth and development have been mainly influenced and fuelled by her passion for the financial markets, focus, discipline, excellence, keen interest in how markets affect individuals and businesses, and the desire to be the best at her craft.
