Momentum Health Solutions believes that medical schemes and health insurers have an important role to play in ensuring that all members of society have equal opportunity to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly the most at-risk members of the South African population. As such, members of all Momentum Health Solutions administered medical schemes, as well as members of Momentum’s affordable healthcare product, Health4Me, will be covered for the COVID-19 vaccine.
“In line with our focus on providing more health to more South Africans for less, we have worked hard to ensure vaccination cover for those clients of ours who are not covered by a medical scheme, thereby reducing the financial burden on government,” says Damian McHugh, Executive at Momentum Health Solutions. “In fact, we decided to take it one step further by enabling the employer groups where these clients are located to provide onsite vaccination services through our existing occupational health capabilities. It is critical that the private and public sectors continue to work together this year to protect our citizens as we fight the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
While Momentum Health Solutions’ clients will have access to the benefit immediately, the service will be offered in line with government’s vaccination roll-out plan, so that the most vulnerable of the South African population are prioritised.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Momentum Health Solutions has supported and continues to support its clients and the rest of SA through the pandemic. As an example, the healthcare funder allowed their scheme members to apply for the usage of their positive savings balances to fund their medical scheme contributions for a period of three months. In addition, Momentum Health Solutions allowed clients with positive HealthSaver accounts to use these funds to pay for their medical scheme contributions. Momentum also offered Hello Dr free to all South Africans that provided advice on the virus and guided members whether they needed testing.
